Referred to as China's Summer Resort Capital, Xining, the capictal of Qinghai Province, is located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the upper reaches of Huangshui River. It is the political, economic, scientific and technological, cultural and traffic center of Qinghai Province. The activities of human beings in this region can be traced to 2,100 years ago. During the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties,
owing to its developing agriculture, the city was paid more attention due to its economic and martial significance. As well as being the important hinge between the central plains and the western part of China in ancient time, Xining was the most common passing channel of the famous Silk Road. Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
At present, five districts, three counties and a national economic and technological development zone are under the administration of the local government. With a population of more than two million, Xining is the first city on the upper reaches of the Yellow River to achieve a population into the millions. There are about 37 nationalities living here, including Han, Hui, Tu and Tibetan. The local traditions and customs are influenced by these distinctive nationalities, in particular the Tibetan group.

Shentangyu Natural Scenic Area Experience Morden Beijing City
Shentangyu Natural Scenic Area is situated in Huairou County, 65 kilometers northeast of Beijing, and was the first scenic spot in Huairou to open to visitors. It was an important fortress for Beijing during the Ming dynasty, and the section of the Great Wall in this area is relatively well preserved.
You and your older teenagers will find it an ideal place to hike: There are hills to climb, brooks and streams to wade through, and the ruins of the Great Wall to explore. The geographical features of this area have formed gorgeous scenes and inspired romantic names such as Dragon Pool, Love Birds Lake and Crocodile Pond. The Yanxi River runs through this area with its transparently clean water, in which the renowned Huairou County red trout can be spotted swimming.
Shentangyu is also a good place for photography. The ruins of the Great Wall offer beautiful light and shadows depending on the time of day. Large rocks eroded over time create the illusion of animal forms such as eagles, camels and turtles. Locals will sometimes tell stories and legends of how these rocks came to be. One trip to the Shentangyu Natural Scenic Area will supply a day of hiking, photography and historical instruction.

Beijing's Iron Man in Tiananmen Square
Iron Man 3 arrives in cinemas this week. But can Marvel win the ultimate battle - to break China's growing movie market with a special Chinese version of the film?
When Marvel launched the international promotional campaign for Iron Man 3 earlier this month, it did not choose Hollywood or London's Leicester Square, but Beijing's Forbidden City.
It was the first time a Hollywood film had ever been celebrated inside the Chinese capital's Imperial Palace.
Leading man Robert Downey Jr even did his part to charm the Chinese press by calling out to fans in the local Chinese dialect.
"I'm interested in all things Chinese and I live a very Chinese life in America," he told the press conference.
It was all part of Hollywood's attempt to woo Chinese audiences and authorities.
